Bulls Say, Bears Say

Bulls Say
Channel DiversificationUnder Armour’s dual-channel model (wholesale plus DTC) provides durable revenue and margin flexibility. Wholesale delivers scale and distribution reach while DTC captures higher retail margins and brand control, enabling long-term margin recovery and strategic pricing discipline across cycles.
Gross Margin ResilienceSustained mid-40% gross margins indicate structural product economics that can support profitability when operating leverage returns. Stable gross margins give management room to drive operating improvements and absorb promotional pressure without collapsing core product profitability.
Strengthened Financial LeadershipA new CFO with a structured handover can materially improve financial discipline, forecasting, and capital allocation. Stronger finance leadership supports durable improvements in cash conversion, cost control, and investor communication over the medium term.
Bears Say
Revenue Decline & Large Net LossFalling revenue and a substantial net loss signal weakened demand and operating stress that undermine reinvestment capacity. Persistent top-line decline can erode scale benefits, complicate margin recovery, and prolong the time needed to return to sustainable operating profitability.
Negative Free Cash FlowNegative free cash flow despite positive operating cash flow shows capital or working-capital drains and limits self-funding of growth. Continued FCF deficits reduce flexibility to invest, pay down debt, or return capital without external financing, raising execution and refinancing risk.
Rising Leverage & Weakened ReturnsModerate but rising leverage combined with a large negative ROE pressures the balance sheet and limits strategic optionality. As equity declines, leverage ratios become more constrained, increasing vulnerability to cash-flow volatility and reducing capacity for opportunistic investments or margin-of-safety.
