Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
High Free Cash Flow ConversionLeidos converts earnings into cash at a very high rate (FCF ≈93% of net income, TTM). Durable FCF supports deleveraging, disciplined M&A, buybacks and sustained investment in mission software and cyber capabilities, increasing resilience to contract timing swings.
Improving Margins And ProfitabilityMargins have recovered materially from prior weakness, with EBITDA margins in the mid‑teens and TTM EBIT/net margins above historical norms. Sustained margin expansion reflects higher mix of tech services, efficiency and pricing power in government contracts, underpinning durable earnings quality.
Portfolio Reshaping & Accretive DealsLeidos is actively reshaping its portfolio — spinning capabilities into an Analogic JV while completing accretive deals like Entrust. These structural moves concentrate capital on higher‑priority growth pillars (cyber, defense tech, digital infra) and can sustainably boost strategic focus and synergy capture.
Bears Say
Elevated LeverageLeidos' leverage is materially above conservative levels, reducing balance sheet flexibility. High debt increases interest and refinancing risk, constrains ability to absorb program cost overruns or invest cyclically, and limits optionality for organic growth if government funding softens.
Defense Margin PressureDefense margins were hit by development‑stage fixed‑price programs and program timing. Given defense is a core, sizable segment, sustained contract mix shifts toward development or fixed‑price work could compress overall margins and reduce cash flow predictability over the medium term.
Lumpy Revenue Cadence & Book-to-bill <1Book‑to‑bill below 1 and management's warning of a Q2 trough indicate award timing and organic demand volatility. Reliance on acquisitions to hit near‑term targets raises execution risk and makes organic growth less predictable, creating structural variability in multi‑quarter revenue trends.

LDOS Earnings Call
Q1 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call conveyed a largely positive operational and financial picture: solid revenue and EPS growth, strong adjusted EBITDA margin (14%), robust cash generation, accretive M&A (Entrust, Kudu) and large defense, health and cyber pipelines. Management raised full-year guidance and emphasized long-term strategic pillars (Defense Tech, managed health, digital infrastructure & cyber, energy resilience, mission software). Offsetting items include margin pressure in Defense and Homeland (notably a ~150 bps decline in Defense margin), flat Health revenue with some VBA-related uncertainty, expected Q2 lumpiness (pull-forward risk) and a one-time insurance benefit in Q1. On balance the positive results, guidance raise and pipeline/award momentum materially outweigh the near-term challenges.View all LDOS earnings summariesLDOS Revenue Breakdown
