Life and Retirement core earnings increased 16% to $9 million, life persistency near 96%; life sales up 17%; retirement sales (isolated) were up 7% in the quarter.
Capital Returns and Strong Capital Generation
Returned $33 million of capital to shareholders in the quarter, including $18 million of share repurchases (≈420k shares) and $15 million of dividends; Board approved a 3% increase to the quarterly dividend (18th consecutive year of dividend growth).
Balance Sheet & Book Value Improvements
Tangible book value per share increased 9% year over year; core shareholder return on equity (TTM) was 12.7%, aligned with the company’s target range.
Investment and Distribution Progress
Core fixed income portfolio yield up 23 basis points YoY with new money yields of 5.38%; unaided brand awareness among educators increased to 35%; points of distribution grew by eight and thousands have enrolled in the Horace Mann Educators Club.
