Bulls Say, Bears Say

Bulls Say
Improved Leverage And Balance Sheet FlexibilityMaterial deleveraging and higher equity provide lasting financial flexibility. Lower absolute debt reduces interest burden and covenant risk, improving resilience to enrollment volatility and giving management room to fund operations, invest in store/e‑commerce upgrades, or pursue selective M&A without immediate refinancing pressure.
Return To Positive EBITDA And Modest Revenue GrowthA return to positive EBITDA alongside top-line growth signals operational stabilization. Sustained EBITDA generation supports reinvestment in courseware and retail, helps normalize working capital cycles tied to academic calendars, and reduces reliance on external financing over the medium term.
Institution-focused, Recurring Contract Business ModelLong-term contracts with colleges and bundled course-material programs create recurring, predictable revenue tied to academic cycles. This institutional positioning supports cross-selling (retail, courseware, services), limits customer acquisition costs, and benefits from structural demand for required course materials and campus services.
Bears Say
Thin Gross Margins And Slightly Negative Net MarginsLow gross margins constrain the firm’s ability to absorb cost inflation or invest in higher-margin digital offerings. Even with EBITDA positive, persistent negative net margins limit retained earnings and make consistent profitability sensitive to small revenue declines or margin pressure from competition and supply costs.
Volatile Cash Generation And Weakening FCF TrendInconsistent cash conversion undermines planning and creates a smaller cushion against enrollment or contract losses. Sharp declines in FCF limit ability to fund capital needs or smoothing investments, increasing reliance on capital markets or debt if operating conditions deteriorate, which raises execution risk.
Returns Remain Negative (low ROE)A negative ROE indicates the company is not generating sufficient returns on equity base, even after deleveraging. Persistently negative returns constrain shareholder value creation, reduce strategic optionality for growth investments, and signal that margin or revenue improvements must be sustained to justify capital.
