Athabasca Oil
Athabasca Oil Corporation, based in Calgary, Canada, is an energy company engaged in the exploration, development, and production of light and thermal oil resources across Alberta's Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. The company segments its operations into Thermal Oil and Light Oil, yielding a range of products including light and medium crude, tight oil, conventional and shale natural gas, natural gas liquids, and bitumen extracted from sand and carbonate formations. Its key assets are situated in northwestern Alberta's Greater Placid and Greater Kaybob areas near Fox Creek, and in the Athabasca region of northeastern Alberta, home to its Leismer and Hangingstone projects. As of December 31, 2021, Athabasca boasted a substantial portfolio of approximately 889,000 net acres in mineral resource leases, licenses, and permits. This total included around 347,000 net acres dedicated to oil sands, roughly 337,000 net acres for petroleum and natural gas within the Athabasca region, and another 204,000 net acres for petroleum and natural gas in northwestern Alberta. The company also held interests in about 254 gross wells producing bitumen, crude oil, and natural gas. Founded in 2006 as Athabasca Oil Sands Corp., the company adopted its current name, Athabasca Oil Corporation, in May 2012.
