Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Integrated Upstream-downstream ModelVertical integration across plantations, milling and refining creates durable supply control and margin capture. Owning the value chain reduces reliance on third-party processors, supports consistent product availability and allows better absorption of input cost swings over multiple cycles, strengthening long-term margins and resilience.
Strong Profitability And MarginsSustained high margins in 2025 indicate structural operating efficiency and pricing power within its core palm-oil operations. Robust margins support reinvestment, dividend capacity and return on equity even when commodity prices fluctuate, giving the company lasting cushion through mid-cycle periods.
Revenue Rebound And Growth MomentumA marked revenue rebound shows the business can reaccelerate after downturns, improving mill and refinery utilization and spreading fixed costs. Given diversified end-markets (domestic and export food, consumer and industrial), this recovery suggests durable demand responsiveness and higher medium-term capacity utilization.
Bears Say
Rising LeverageA materially higher debt-to-equity ratio increases financial risk and reduces flexibility to absorb adverse price cycles. Elevated leverage can constrain capital allocation, limit ability to de-lever or invest during downturns, and raises sensitivity to interest costs and cash-flow volatility over the medium term.
Inconsistent Free Cash FlowVolatile and relatively low free cash flow versus earnings signals uneven cash conversion and higher reinvestment or working-capital swings. This undermines sustainable dividend coverage, hampers debt reduction and increases reliance on external funding when margins or prices soften over the next several quarters.
Earnings Volatility From Commodity ExposureSignificant year-to-year swings reflect sensitivity to palm oil price cycles and harvest variability. Such cyclicality makes earnings, cash flow and capital planning less predictable, raising the risk that a negative commodity cycle could stress margins, debt metrics and shareholder returns over a multi-quarter horizon.

Company Description
First Resources (Singapore)
First Resources Limited, founded in Singapore in 1992, operates as an investment holding company primarily focused on palm oil production. Its extensive operations span Singapore, Indonesia, Europe, China, and other international regions. The company's business is organized into two main divisions: Plantations and Palm Oil Mills, and Refinery and Processing. In its Plantations and Palm Oil Mills segment, First Resources is responsible for cultivating and maintaining oil palms, as well as harvesting and milling fresh fruit bunches to produce crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernels (PK). The Refinery and Processing division subsequently transforms these CPO and PK products into a variety of value-added derivatives, such as biodiesel, palm kernel oil, palm kernel expeller, and refined, bleached, and deodorized (RBD) olein and stearin. Beyond its core palm oil activities, the company also engages in rubber cultivation. First Resources oversees a substantial agricultural portfolio, managing 212,208 hectares of oil palm plantations and an additional 6,321 hectares dedicated to rubber. The company is a subsidiary of Eight Capital Inc.
