Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Regulated Capital Investment And Earnings GrowthThe large regulated investment program should expand rate base and support recovery of infrastructure spending through approved tariffs. Reaffirmed multi-year earnings growth indicates management sees durable visibility from utility capital deployment.
Strong Nuclear Generation PositionHigh nuclear availability supports dependable carbon-free generation, capacity revenue and participation in decarbonizing power markets. Strong operating performance also improves the value and earnings contribution of PSEG’s generation fleet.
Liquidity And Long-Term Capital AccessSubstantial liquidity and continued access to long-term debt markets provide funding capacity for infrastructure investment and refinancing. Avoiding equity issuance can preserve existing ownership while supporting the regulated growth plan.
Bears Say
Elevated Utility LeverageThe debt-heavy utility capital structure is manageable for the sector but reduces financial flexibility. Higher borrowing costs or weaker regulatory recovery could pressure coverage, raise financing needs and constrain investment capacity.
Uneven Cash ConversionRecent cash generation has improved, yet large swings tied to capital spending and working capital make cash conversion less predictable. Persistent variability could increase reliance on external funding during heavy infrastructure investment.
Power And Regulatory Earnings ExposureThe loss of ZEC revenue demonstrates exposure to changing policy support, while possible RTO incentive removal creates an additional recurring headwind. These factors make non-regulated earnings and portions of utility returns less durable.

Company Description
Public Service Enterprise
Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated (PSEG) is an energy provider primarily operating through its subsidiaries in the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic United States. The company's business activities are structured into two primary segments: PSE&G and PSEG Power. By December 31, 2021, its substantial infrastructure included 25,000 circuit miles of electric transmission and distribution systems, supported by 862,000 utility poles. It also featured 56 switching stations with a total capacity of 39,353 megavolt-amperes (MVA) and 235 substations with a combined capacity of 9,285 MVA. The electric network was further managed by four main and five sub-electric distribution headquarters. On the gas side, PSE&G maintained 18,000 miles of gas mains, twelve primary and two secondary gas distribution headquarters, a single meter shop, and 58 natural gas metering and regulating stations. PEG Earnings Call
Q2 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call presented a mix of operational and strategic positives — strong storm response, robust nuclear output, confirmed guidance, sizeable customer savings from energy-efficiency programs, substantial planned capital investment with funding capacity, and a recent regulatory win that benefits customers. Offsetting these strengths were notable near-term GAAP earnings headwinds (sharp drop in Q2 net income per share), a year-over-year swing to a net loss in PSEG Power, the end of ZEC revenues, inflation-driven higher O&M and financing costs, and regulatory risks (potential RTO incentive elimination). On balance, management emphasized stability, reaffirmed guidance, and highlighted multiple growth and customer-benefit initiatives, suggesting that the positives materially outweigh the negatives.View all PEG earnings summariesPEG Revenue Breakdown
