Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Positive Cash GenerationSustained positive operating and free cash flow give the partnership operational resilience: they help cover maintenance capex, service debt, and support distributions or deleveraging. Over 2–6 months this cash generation is a durable buffer versus purely loss-making peers.
Stable Midstream Operating MarginsMidstream-style operating margins indicate underlying fee-based economics and operational efficiency. Even with top-line pressure, positive EBIT/EBITDA margins suggest core terminals and transport assets can produce recurring operating profit over time, supporting cash flow continuity.
Fee-based, Contract-driven Business ModelA largely fee-for-service model across terminalling, storage and transport reduces direct commodity exposure and creates predictable revenue streams tied to contracts and capacity. This structural demand for logistics and storage supports longer-term revenue stability.
Bears Say
Negative Equity / Weak Capital CushionA negative equity position materially weakens the partnership’s solvency buffer and elevates refinancing and covenant risk. Over months, this limits strategic optionality, increases lender scrutiny, and raises the probability that adverse shocks force asset sales or equity-like remedies.
Sharp Revenue Decline And Net LossesA severe, persistent drop in revenue reduces utilization of terminals and transport assets and compresses scale economics. Continued net losses hinder equity rebuilding and make meeting tighter covenants and restoring leverage metrics more challenging over the medium term.
Volatile And Declining Free Cash FlowDeclining and inconsistent free cash flow undermines predictability for distributions, capex, and deleveraging plans. Even with positive FCF today, volatility raises execution risk on meeting rising covenant thresholds and limits the partnership’s ability to invest or absorb shocks.
