Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Earnings RecoveryReturning from a deep FY2024 loss to profits in FY2025–FY2026 indicates that the retailer has restored basic earnings capacity. Although profits remain small, this recovery provides a foundation for operational improvements if sales and margins stabilize.
Gross Margin ImprovementThe improved FY2026 gross margin versus FY2024 suggests merchandising or cost execution has begun to recover. Sustained margin rebuilding could strengthen earnings quality, although the margin remains below FY2021–FY2023 levels and needs further proof.
Improving Operating ReturnsPositive operating cash flow in FY2026 and a return to positive ROE in FY2025–FY2026 show that the business is again generating operating returns. This supports internal funding and signals improvement, even though free cash flow conversion remains uneven.
Bears Say
Elevated LeverageHigh leverage and a shrinking equity cushion reduce financial flexibility for store investment, inventory needs, or downturns. The structure leaves less room for execution errors and could increase dependence on operating cash flow or external funding.
Weak Revenue And Margin BaseRecent revenue contraction and thin margins indicate that the recovery has not yet translated into durable top-line momentum. Limited profitability leaves earnings sensitive to store traffic, product mix, cost inflation, and competitive pricing pressure.
Volatile Free Cash FlowInconsistent cash generation weakens the company’s ability to fund reinvestment while reducing debt. Negative recent free cash flow, despite positive operating cash flow, suggests working capital or capital spending can materially disrupt funding capacity.
