Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Specialty Materials BusinessExposure to specialty chemicals and fluoropolymer-related materials can support differentiation and customer integration versus commoditized products. This mix may provide more durable pricing power and margin resilience when production efficiency and product selection remain favorable.
Positive Operating Cash GenerationSustained positive operating cash flow gives Kureha an internal source for investment, debt service and shareholder returns despite reported losses. Positive recent free cash flow also provides a financial buffer, although its durability requires improved earnings conversion.
Revenue Growth And Gross-margin ResilienceModest revenue growth combined with stable gross margins indicates that demand and basic economics have not deteriorated across the entire portfolio. This supports recovery potential if weaker operating performance is addressed through mix, pricing or efficiency improvements.
Bears Say
Sustained Loss-making PerformanceThe shift from profitability in 2022–2025 to losses in annual 2026 and TTM signals materially weaker earnings quality and elevated volatility. Unless operating performance recovers, losses can constrain reinvestment, weaken returns and reduce resilience across the business cycle.
Higher Leverage And Negative ReturnsHigher leverage reduces financial flexibility at a time when profitability is weak and ROE is negative. The balance sheet remains supported by equity, but rising debt increases sensitivity to operating setbacks and may limit capacity for strategic investment or shareholder distributions.
Uneven Free-cash-flow SustainabilityPositive free cash flow is encouraging, but its year-over-year decline and uneven conversion from reported earnings weaken confidence in sustainable cash generation. Continued losses or renewed investment needs could reduce the cushion available for debt reduction and growth spending.
