Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Free Cash Flow GenerationSustained, large free cash flow provides durable internal funding for sustaining capex, exploration, dividends and buybacks without reliance on external financing. High cash conversion (FCF ~67% of net income TTM) materially improves strategic optionality and resilience across cycles.
Deleveraged Balance Sheet And LiquidityEliminating long-term debt and holding a net cash position plus an undrawn revolver materially reduces refinancing risk, supports disciplined capital allocation, funds exploration/organic projects, and enables buybacks or dividends while preserving financial flexibility.
Low Unit Costs And Strong MarginsIndustry-competitive AISC and exceptionally strong by-product credits at core mines create durable margin cushions versus metal-price swings, enabling sustained profitability, high cash returns from existing assets and capacity to fund low‑capex organic enhancements.
Bears Say
Keno Hill Permitting & Ramp TimingRegulatory timelines and permitting constraints materially delay throughput increases at Keno Hill, compressing near- and medium-term production growth. Slower ramp reduces forecastable cash flow and pushes optionality around 20M+ oz pathway into a later, uncertain horizon.
Grade Variability At Lucky FridaySequential grade declines at Lucky Friday raise site unit costs and increase production volatility. Persistent grade variability undermines short- to medium-term margin predictability and requires higher operating flexibility or incremental investment to stabilize output and costs.
Early-stage Project And Tailings UncertaintyPotential cash-flow upside from tailings reprocessing and pyrite circuits is promising but remains contingent on metallurgical results, capital estimates and permits. Reliance on these early-stage initiatives for material uplift increases execution and timing risk for multi‑year planning.

Company Description
Hecla Mining Company
Hecla Mining Company, along with its subsidiaries, engages in the exploration, acquisition, development, and extraction of both precious and base metal resources across the United States and internationally. The company produces concentrates of silver, gold, lead, and zinc, as well as carbon material and doré, both of which contain silver and gold. These materials are then sold to custom smelters, metal traders, and third-party processors. Hecla holds full ownership stakes in several key mining operations: the Greens Creek mine in southeast Alaska's Admiralty Island; the Lucky Friday mine in northern Idaho; the Casa Berardi mine located in the Abitibi region of northwestern Quebec, Canada; and the San Sebastian mine in Durango, Mexico. Additionally, the company entirely owns the Fire Creek mine in Lander County, Nevada, and both the Hollister and Midas mines in Elko County, Nevada. Established in 1891, Hecla Mining Company's headquarters are located in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

HL Earnings Call
Q1 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call emphasized a strong operational and financial turnaround: debt elimination, record free cash flow and EBITDA, low costs, and clear organic growth and exploration upsides. Challenges noted were largely execution and timing related (permitting at Keno Hill, early-stage project uncertainties, grade variability at Lucky Friday, and shipping/AR timing). Overall the narrative was confident and forward-looking with multiple near- and medium-term value-creation initiatives under evaluation.View all HL earnings summariesHL Net sales Breakdown
