Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Foundry Growth And MMS IntegrationStrong Foundry growth and successful MMS integration diversify earnings beyond steel, while expected synergies can support recurring profit growth. The division’s operating momentum and integration benefits provide a durable counterbalance to weaker areas.
Improved Cash Generation And DeleveragingThe sharp recovery in cash conversion strengthens funding flexibility and supports debt reduction. Maintaining leverage near 2x while generating positive free cash flow improves resilience and gives management more capacity to invest in operations.
Structural Cost SavingsRecurring savings should provide lasting support for margins as implementation progresses, partly offsetting pricing and volume pressure. Delivery ahead of plan also indicates identifiable efficiency actions that can improve competitiveness and earnings quality.
Bears Say
Sustained Margin And Profitability CompressionThe multi-year decline in margins and ROE indicates that weaker pricing, mix, costs, or end-market demand have reduced earnings power. Even with recovery measures, restoring historical returns may take time and execution remains important.
European Refractories Pricing PressurePersistent Chinese pricing pressure can constrain prices, utilization, and margins in European Advanced Refractories. Management is adapting the manufacturing footprint, but the lack of near-term pricing recovery makes this a continuing structural earnings risk.
Cash-Flow Volatility And Capital IntensityRecent cash-flow weakness combined with higher planned investment increases execution and funding demands. Although H1 conversion improved, working-capital drag, capex phasing, and uneven equipment sales could continue to make cash generation less predictable.
