The company's expertise in water services encompasses the entire cycle: from sourcing, producing, and distributing drinking water and industrial process water, to collecting, treating, and recycling wastewater, as well as designing and constructing the necessary treatment and network infrastructure. In the realm of waste, Veolia handles collection, material recovery (including recycling and waste-to-energy processes), organic waste valorization, hazardous waste treatment, decommissioning and site remediation, urban cleaning, and industrial maintenance. For energy, its operations include managing heating and cooling networks, developing services to lower energy consumption and carbon footprints for buildings, optimizing industrial utility usage, and generating electricity from biomass. Veolia currently provides potable water to 95 million people. Founded in 1853 and based in Aubervilliers, France, the company adopted its current name, Veolia Environnement S.A., in 2003, having previously been known as Vivendi Environnement.
