Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Record Funded BacklogA $111M funded backlog provides multi-year revenue visibility and de-risks near-term demand variability. Durable conversion of backlog into production revenue supports steady top-line growth over 1–3 years and underpins management's multi-year CAGR targets and planning for capacity and workforce.
Conservative Balance SheetLow leverage and a sizable equity base (~$56M vs ~$91M assets) give financial flexibility for contract performance and program qualification cycles. This capital buffer supports R&D, facility investments, and the ability to absorb timing mismatches between milestones and cash receipts without immediate dilution or distress.
Shift To Higher-Rate ProductionMoving to higher-rate production improves overhead absorption and reduces per-unit engineering costs, creating a structural path to sustainably higher gross margins. This operational shift, paired with prior investments in facilities and talent, supports predictable revenue streams and margin durability as volumes scale.
Bears Say
Weak Cash GenerationNegative and declining free cash flow indicates weaker cash conversion and higher working-capital or capex demands. Persistent FCF deficits erode liquidity over time, can force reliance on external financing, constrain reinvestment, and raise execution risk if backlog conversion and margin improvement are delayed.
Volatile ProfitabilityLarge swings between profitable years and loss-making periods point to inconsistent earnings power tied to program timing and one-off charges. This volatility complicates long-term forecasting, weakens return predictability, and increases the chance that setbacks will pressure the balance sheet or require further restructuring.
Restructuring And Inventory Write-downThe FEI-Elcom wind-down inflicted near-term revenue loss and a material inventory charge, evidencing operational and integration risk. Such disruptions can depress margins and cash flows beyond one quarter and suggest risks in executing restructurings or transitions that are critical to achieving higher-rate, higher-margin production.

Company Description
Frequency Electronics
Frequency Electronics, Inc. (FEIM) is a firm dedicated to the design, development, production, and sale of highly precise timing and frequency control products and their associated components. These specialized items are primarily intended for microwave integrated circuit applications. The company's operations are divided into two main segments. The FEI-NY segment is responsible for advanced timekeeping, frequency generation, and synchronization systems, which find utility in communication satellites, ground-based cellular telecommunication stations, and other similar terrestrial installations. This segment also supplies bespoke components and systems to the United States military. Meanwhile, the FEI-Zyfer segment focuses on crafting precision navigation and timing solutions. These solutions predominantly leverage Global Positioning System (GPS) technologies and are integrated into diverse platforms such as radar systems, airborne SIGINT/COMINT intelligence-gathering platforms, information networks, specialized test equipment, military command and control terminals, and satellite ground stations. The array of products offered by Frequency Electronics supports a wide spectrum of clients, including commercial and governmental satellite programs, and is crucial for secure communications, comprehensive C4ISR (Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Intelligence, Security and Reconnaissance) initiatives, and electronic warfare operations undertaken by the U.S. government across land-based, maritime, and airborne systems. To reach its global customer base, the company employs both direct sales channels and collaborates with independent sales organizations situated throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Established in 1961, Frequency Electronics, Inc. maintains its corporate headquarters in Mitchel Field, New York.
FEIM Earnings Call
Q4 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call presented a constructive forward-looking picture: record bookings/backlog, a diversified pipeline across space and defense, clear multi-year revenue and margin targets (34% CAGR to $150M and gross/operating margin goals of 50%/30% by FY2029), and strategic investments already made to support scale. Near-term results were weighed down by a planned year of "digestion," pre-revenue engineering and process investments, a $3.8M inventory write-down related to FEI-Elcom restructuring, and several one-time charges that depressed reported margins and quarterly revenue. Management emphasized these were strategic, mostly non-recurring actions intended to position the company for higher-margin, higher-rate production and sustained growth, and expects revenue and cash generation to rebound in fiscal 2027.View all FEIM earnings summariesFEIM Stock 12 Month Forecast
