Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Cash Generation & FCFSustained positive operating cash flow (~$7.9B TTM) and meaningful free cash flow (~$3.8B TTM) provide durable internal funding for R&D, dealer support, financing programs, and shareholder returns, lowering reliance on external funding through industry cycles.
Diverse Segment StrengthOutperformance in Small Ag & Turf and a materially stronger Construction & Forestry segment (sales up 16% and 29% respectively, with C&F guidance raised) reduces reliance on large-ag cyclicality and supports more stable revenue and margin mix over multi-quarter horizons.
Product, Tech & Dealer MomentumRobust adoption of connectivity and automation (JDLink Boost kits, ~440k monthly active users) plus new machinery releases deepen customer lock-in, expand recurring software/service revenue and aftermarket parts demand, supporting margin durability and longer-term lifecycle monetization.
Bears Say
Large-ag CyclicalitySignificant declines in core large-ag volumes and a downwards full‑year guide show Deere’s exposure to farm income and commodity cycles; this cyclicality makes equipment demand and margin recovery uncertain across 2–6 month horizons and complicates capacity and inventory planning.
Tariff Policy HeadwindOngoing, sizable tariff exposure (roughly $1.0–$1.2B) is a structural margin headwind and policy-dependent risk; the prior quarter’s one-time refund temporarily inflated margins, masking persistent cost pressure and planning uncertainty for margins and pricing.
Regional & Input-cost PressureWeakness in Brazil and elevated input, materials and freight costs alongside high rates depress purchase economics for farmers and can reduce new equipment demand, raise credit risk in financing operations, and dampen aftermarket growth in affected regions for months ahead.
