Bulls Say
High-quality Cash GenerationConsistent FCF roughly matching reported earnings demonstrates durable cash conversion and high earnings quality. Strong free cash flow (CHF207.4m in 2025) supports dividends, debt servicing and reinvestment, giving the bank flexibility through credit cycles and funding stress.
Robust Capital And Liquidity BuffersVery strong capital and liquidity ratios provide regulatory cushion and strategic optionality. High CET1/Tier‑1 and superlative LCR/NSFR allow management to pursue acquisitions, maintain payouts and absorb credit or funding shocks without immediate capital raising.
Acquisition Meaningfully Scales Auto BusinessThe Santander buy increases scale, dealer/importer partnerships and market share in auto finance—structural advantages for origination economics and diversification. Management expects mid‑term ROE and EPS uplift, strengthening long‑term revenue base and partner distribution reach.
Bears Say
Debt-heavy Funding ProfileA high debt-to-equity ratio leaves the bank sensitive to rising funding costs and liquidity shocks. Even with improvement, elevated leverage constrains capital flexibility, can amplify credit losses' impact on solvency metrics, and limits rapid deleveraging during stress.
Higher Loss Rate And Provisioning RiskAn elevated and rising loss rate signals credit quality pressures that can persist across cycles, raising expense volatility and lowering net yields. Higher provisions reduce distributable earnings and slow capital rebuild, particularly while integrating larger portfolios with different credit profiles.
Near-term Dilution, Capital Hit And Yield Pressure From AcquisitionWhile strategic long‑term, the deal causes immediate EPS dilution, consumes capital and raises integration costs. Coupled with management's note that the acquired new‑car portfolio yields less than the existing used‑car book, there's durable pressure on margins and ROE until scale and repricing benefits materialize.
