UMA (Universal Market Access) aims to make financial markets universally accessible and enables developers to create any kind of financial contracts. With its optimistic oracle and dispute arbitration systems, arbitrary types of data can be brought on a chain. UMA’s oracle systems offer data for various projects such as insurance protocols, prediction markets, derivatives and a cross-chain bridge. Further, this optimistic oracle, known as the data verification mechanism (DVM), acts as the dispute resolution service for contracts built on the protocol. The DVM provides asset price at a requested time stamp only when participants on the network dispute the value of a collateral (that is backing a synthetic token). Thus, oracle usage is lowered, which boosts security and scalability of contracts. Some of UMA’s strategic partners include Bain Capital Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, Two Sigma Ventures and Badger DAO. The max supply of UMA tokens is capped at ~101.2 million.
