Has the Identity of Bitcoin’s Creator Finally Been Uncovered?

For years, the identity of Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, has remained one of the biggest mysteries in finance and technology. However, a new 10,000-word investigation by The New York Times suggests that British computer scientist Adam Back could be the person behind the alias. Beyond simple curiosity, the answer matters because Satoshi is believed to hold about 1.1 million Bitcoin, making him one of the largest holders in the world.

It is worth noting that Back’s role in crypto history makes the theory more compelling. Indeed, in 1997, he created Hashcash, a system that introduced the idea of proof of work, which later became the foundation of Bitcoin. In fact, Satoshi directly contacted Back before releasing the Bitcoin white paper to reference his work. According to the investigation, researchers compared Satoshi’s known writings with Back’s and found strong similarities in writing style, including grammar patterns and formatting habits. These similarities, along with historical connections between the two, are a key part of the case.

Still, Back has firmly denied that he is Satoshi. He stated publicly that while he was involved early in cryptography and digital cash research, he is not the creator of Bitcoin. Despite this, the investigation argues that the number of similarities is difficult to ignore. Importantly, the issue also has real financial implications. Back is currently the CEO of a company that is preparing to go public, and if he were Satoshi, his massive Bitcoin holdings could be considered important information for investors.
