Genesis Energy Limited, a New Zealand-based company, is involved in the generation, trading, and retail distribution of electricity to both residential and commercial consumers. Its power generation portfolio encompasses thermal, hydroelectric, and wind-powered facilities. The company's operations are organized into three primary segments: Retail, Wholesale, and Kupe. The Retail division focuses on supplying various energy products—electricity, natural gas, and LPG—to end-users, alongside offering associated services. Within the Wholesale segment, activities include distributing electricity to the wholesale market, providing gas and LPG to both wholesale and retail clients, and managing electricity price risk through derivative transactions. The Kupe segment is dedicated to the exploration, development, and extraction of gas, oil, and LPG. It also supplies gas and LPG to Genesis Energy's wholesale operations, in addition to light oil. Its significant generation assets include the Huntly power station, boasting a capacity of 953 MW; the Tongariro Power Scheme, consisting of three facilities totaling 361.8 MW; the Waikaremoana Power Scheme, with its three power stations providing 138 MW; the Tekapo Power Scheme, rated at 190 MW; and the Hau Nui wind farm, featuring 15 turbines. Originally established in 1998 as Genesis Power Limited, the company adopted its current name, Genesis Energy Limited, in September 2013. Its corporate headquarters are located in Auckland, New Zealand.
