Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Scrap-based EAF Business ModelKyoei's EAF, scrap-centric production is a durable structural advantage: it provides flexible, lower-capex steelmaking and ties the company to recycling/commodity inputs. This supports resilient supply economics and alignment with construction demand for rebar over multi-year cycles.
Improving LeverageA falling debt-to-equity ratio and rising equity indicate strengthening balance-sheet resilience. Improved leverage reduces interest burden and increases financial flexibility to withstand cyclicality, fund maintenance capex, and sustain dividends across 2–6 month horizons and beyond.
Stable Operating MarginsConsistent EBIT margins and a rising gross margin reflect durable operational efficiency and cost control in a cyclical industry. Stable operating profitability supports ongoing cash generation capacity and makes earnings less sensitive to short-term price swings in raw materials and product mix.
Bears Say
Volatile And Falling Free Cash FlowA sharp drop in free cash flow signals volatility in cash conversion and raises questions about sustainable internal funding. Reduced FCF constrains reinvestment, dividend durability, and buffers against slower construction demand, increasing reliance on external financing in downturns.
Softening Revenue And Earnings TrendRevenue and EPS trends have cooled after strong earlier growth, reducing visibility for medium-term topline expansion. For a construction-dependent steel supplier, persistent softer demand limits scaling of margins and may pressure unit economics if volumes fail to recover.
Large Absolute Debt ExposureEven with improved leverage ratios, a sizeable nominal debt stock creates exposure to interest-rate moves and cyclical revenue drops. High absolute debt can restrict discretionary capex, elevate refinancing risk, and strain liquidity if industry downturns persist.
