Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Backlog & Book-to-BillA near‑$1.1B RPO and $925M of trailing‑12‑month bookings (book‑to‑bill ~1.1) give multi‑quarter revenue visibility. This durable backlog reduces short‑term sales volatility and supports predictable production conversion as defense and commercial program ramps continue over coming years.
Margin Expansion & Operating LeverageGross margin improvement to ~26.9% and adjusted EBITDA at 16.9% reflect structural improvements in pricing, mix and cost control. Management's 18% EBITDA target plus planned facility consolidation and productivity actions indicate sustainable operating leverage rather than ephemeral gains.
Materially Improved LeverageDebt-to-equity falling to ~0.07 materially strengthens the balance sheet, increasing financial flexibility. Low leverage reduces refinancing risk, supports funding of program ramps or targeted M&A, and helps the company absorb aerospace/defense cyclicality over the medium term.
Bears Say
Weak Cash GenerationOperating and free cash flow turning negative in the TTM and 2025 marks a reversal of prior multi‑year cash generation. Persistent cash outflows raise funding and execution risk, constrain reinvestment and working capital for programs, and make long‑term expansion or M&A more dependent on external liquidity.
Net Losses Despite Strong RevenueTurning to net losses despite very strong top‑line growth indicates structural pressure below gross margin — higher operating costs, mix shifts, or other expenses. This undermines return on equity and suggests management must sustain margin gains to convert revenue into durable profitability.
Program Timing & Destocking RiskOngoing customer destocking and uncertain timing for large missile orders create durable revenue timing risk. Even with strong backlog, uneven order flows and delayed award timing can cause quarter‑to‑quarter volatility in production, margin mix shifts, and cash conversion over the next 2–6 months.

Company Description
Ducommun Incorporated
Ducommun Incorporated, an established company founded in 1849 and based in Santa Ana, California, specializes in delivering advanced engineering and manufacturing solutions. Primarily, it caters to critical sectors within the United States, such as the aerospace and defense, industrial, and medical fields. The company's operations are divided into two principal segments: Electronic Systems and Structural Systems. The Electronic Systems division produces a wide array of sophisticated components. These offerings encompass various connectivity and wiring solutions like cable assemblies, wire harnesses, and interconnect systems, as well as printed circuit board assemblies and more complex electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical sub-assemblies. This segment also provides lightning diversion systems, radar housings, aircraft electronics racks, shipboard communication and control enclosures, surge suppressors, and conformal shields. Additionally, it develops precision-engineered products such as illuminated pushbutton switches and control panels for aviation and testing, high-frequency microwave and millimeter switches/filters for radio frequency systems, and motors and resolvers for motion control applications. A significant aspect of this division is its contribution of engineering expertise to aerospace system design, development, integration, and testing. The Structural Systems division focuses on designing, engineering, and fabricating intricate structural elements. Its product range includes meticulously contoured aerospace components crafted from aluminum, titanium, and Inconel alloys. This segment also creates complete structural assemblies, such as winglets, engine components, and fuselage panels. Furthermore, it is responsible for advanced metal and composite bonded structures and assemblies, examples of which include aircraft wing spoilers, large fuselage skins, rotor blades for rotary-wing aircraft, flight control surfaces, engine parts, ammunition handling systems, and magnetic seals. Ducommun's extensive portfolio of products and services supports a diverse range of applications, spanning commercial and military aviation (both fixed-wing and rotary-wing platforms), space exploration programs, and various industrial and medical end-use markets.

DCO Earnings Call
Q1 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call conveyed a strongly positive operational and financial start to 2026: record first-quarter revenue, double-digit improvement in adjusted EBITDA margin toward Vision 2027 goals, robust commercial aerospace recovery, solid defense/missile momentum, improved EPS and cash generation, and ample liquidity. Key near-term headwinds include remaining destocking, timing-related softness in some defense subsegments, and the timing uncertainty of booking large missile framework orders and M&A execution. On balance, the positive execution, margin expansion and sizable backlog/RPO outweigh the manageable near-term challenges.View all DCO earnings summariesDCO Stock 12 Month Forecast
