Poxel SA
Poxel S.A. is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical firm dedicated to discovering innovative therapies for a range of conditions, including metabolic disorders, type 2 diabetes, and liver ailments. Its most advanced investigational drug, Imeglimin, is an oral medication candidate for type 2 diabetes. This treatment has successfully completed Phase III trials in Japan and is currently undergoing Phase III development in both the United States and Europe. Imeglimin works by enhancing pancreatic beta cell function, reducing insulin resistance, and mitigating significant cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors like elevated blood lipid levels and excessive body weight. Beyond Imeglimin, Poxel is also advancing PXL770, an activator of the adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) enzyme. This compound is presently in a Phase 2a clinical trial, targeting various chronic metabolic diseases, notably those affecting the liver, such as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Furthermore, the company has strategic collaborations for other pipeline assets. Under a licensing agreement with Enyo Pharma S.A.S., Poxel is developing PXL007 (also known as EYP001), a synthetic non-steroidal and non-bile acid FXR agonist, which is currently in a Phase II study for treating hepatitis B and NASH. Another partnership with DeuteRx LLC focuses on PXL065, a mitochondrial pyruvate carrier inhibitor, now in a Phase I clinical trial specifically for NASH. Established in 2009, Poxel S.A. operates from its headquarters in Lyon, France.
