What is FileCoin?
FileCoin
This open-source decentralized project was founded by Juan Benet in 2017, and it provides decentralized data storage. This decentralization makes users the custodians of their own data as compared to centralized repositories.
On Filecoin, storage miners store data for rewards, retrieval miners retrieve data for a reward and users pay for storing or retrieving their data. The network is based on an interplanetary file system (IPFS) which was created by Juan Benet. The network uses Proof-of-Replication and Proof-of-Spacetime (for miners). Importantly, the marketplace for data storage lowers overall costs of data storage.
