What is Cosmos?
Cosmos
Founded by Jae Kwon, Zarko Milosevic and Ethan Buchman, Cosmos is focused on addressing the toughest problems in the blockchain industry. Made up of application, networking and consensus layers, Cosmos prioritizes scalability and ease of use.
The network is made up of multiple independent blockchains (zones) that are powered by Tendermint BFT. This provides a high performance, consistent and secure consensus engine. The hub and zones on the network communicate via an inter-blockchain communication (IBC) protocol. Thus, tokens can be transferred between zones securely and quickly. This eliminates the requirement for exchange liquidity between zones.
The Cosmos Hub tracks total tokens held by each zone and as anybody can connect a new zone to the hub, future compatibility with new innovations remains.
Cosmos has become an ever-expanding ecosystem and has more than $61 billion worth of digital assets under management. The current circulating supply of ATOM is about 286 million.
