Bulls Say, Bears Say

Bulls Say
Conservative Balance SheetVery low debt and meaningful equity growth provide durable financial flexibility. With leverage near zero across recent years, Mexco can fund participation in drilling, absorb commodity volatility, and support opportunistic acquisitions or dividends without relying on external debt markets.
Consistent Operating Cash GenerationSustained operating cash generation that materially exceeds debt obligations supports ongoing capex and working capital needs. This cash flow foundation underpins the company’s ability to fund Delaware Basin activity, return capital to shareholders, and withstand shortfalls in commodity prices.
High Royalty Income & Active Delaware ProgramNearly half of operating revenues from cost-free royalties materially lowers capital intensity and downside on production costs. Coupled with active, targeted Delaware Basin drilling and planned investments, this mix supports reserve replacement while limiting direct operating burden for Mexco.
Bears Say
Declining Revenue TrendA multi-year, uneven top-line trajectory with steep declines erodes visibility on future production and cash generation. Persistent revenue contraction pressures margins, constrains reinvestment capacity, and raises the risk that recent cash flow improvements are cyclical rather than sustainable.
Profitability SofteningMaterial year-over-year earnings decline reduces the margin of safety from retained earnings and weakens internal funding for development. Softer reported profitability limits retained cash for growth or dividends and increases sensitivity to further commodity or production setbacks.
Choppy Free Cash FlowVolatile free cash flow complicates long-term planning for drilling commitments and shareholder returns. Even with strong operating cash in some periods, inconsistent FCF raises funding risk for future capex cycles and makes dividends or reinvestment decisions more contingent on volatile commodity cycles.
