Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. - Petrobras, founded in 1953 and based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, functions as a integrated energy enterprise engaged in the worldwide exploration, extraction, and sale of petroleum and natural gas. The company's operations span the entire hydrocarbon value chain, from searching for and drilling crude oil across onshore, offshore, and shale fields, to its refining, processing, commercialization, and logistical transport, including natural gas and other liquid hydrocarbons. Petrobras structures its extensive activities into several specialized divisions: Exploration and Production: This segment focuses on identifying, developing, and producing crude oil, natural gas liquids, and natural gas, primarily channeling these resources to the company's domestic refining infrastructure. Refining, Transportation and Marketing: This unit oversees the refinement, logistics, distribution, marketing, and trading of crude oil and refined products. It also handles ethanol exports, shale extraction and processing, and maintains investments in petrochemical companies. Gas and Power: Responsible for the supply and trading of natural gas and electricity, this division manages the transport and commercialization of liquefied natural gas (LNG), operates thermoelectric power generation facilities, holds interests in natural gas transportation and distribution networks, and is involved in fertilizer production and natural gas processing. Corporate and Other Businesses: This division encompasses the production of biofuels like biodiesel and ethanol, along with the distribution of petroleum products.
