Furthermore, under its POWERTEL brand, the company operates an overhead optical fiber network for telecommunications, integrating optical ground wire technology onto its power transmission lines. It also maintains electric vehicle charging stations. Established in 1989, the company was originally named National Power Transmission Corporation Limited before adopting its current identity, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, in October 1992.
