Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Strong 2025 Revenue GrowthA nearly 30% top-line increase in 2025 signals meaningful demand recovery and improved utilization of steelmaking capacity. Sustained revenue expansion over 2–6 months supports margin leverage potential, better fixed-cost absorption, and a clearer path to operational normalization.
Manageable LeverageA balance sheet with equity around HK$22B and moderate debt-to-equity (~0.6–0.8) provides solvency buffer through cyclical swings. This financial flexibility supports refinancing, working-capital needs, and selective capex without forcing asset sales, improving resilience over multiple quarters.
Rebound In Operating Cash FlowA return to positive operating cash flow (~HK$1.4B) indicates improved cash conversion from core operations. Durable OCF recovery strengthens the company’s ability to service debt and fund working-capital needs, reducing reliance on external financing across the medium term.
Bears Say
Very Thin Profit MarginsGross and net margins near single digits leave limited buffer for input-cost inflation or pricing pressure. Thin margins compress earnings volatility and reduce the firm’s ability to build reserves, making sustained profitability fragile across commodity cycles and multi-quarter downturns.
Low Return On EquityROE around 1% reflects weak returns on invested capital despite recent revenue gains. Persistently low ROE limits capacity to self-fund growth or pay meaningful dividends and signals the business struggles to generate adequate profit relative to its equity base over the medium term.
Volatile Cash Flow And CyclicalityHistoric swings—periods of negative operating cash flow and a 2025 dip in free cash flow—highlight the company’s exposure to working-capital swings and cyclical steel demand. This volatility raises refinancing and reinvestment risk during adverse market turns over coming quarters.
