Founded by Beniamin Mincu, Lucian Mincu and Lucian Todea in 2017, Elrond is focused on scalability and uses the Secure Proof-of-Stake mechanism. Elrond has now been renamed as MultiversX, and offers a scalable, secure, and decentralized blockchain network targeting the metaverse frontier. The platform has three execution shards and one coordination shard and its parallel processing supports a higher number of transactions. Further, the EGLD token acts as the native token of the MultiversX, offering utility for staking, governance, smart contracts, and validator rewards, as well as transactions. Importantly, sharding enables the platform to offer over 100,000 TPS. The platform currently has 3,200 nodes and offers a transaction cost of $0.00220. The max supply of EGLD tokens is capped at ~31.4 million.
