Founded by Beniamin Mincu, Lucian Mincu and Lucian Todea in 2017, Elrond is focused on scalability and uses the Secure Proof-of-Stake mechanism. Elrond has now been renamed as MultiversX, and offers a scalable, secure, and decentralized blockchain network targeting the metaverse frontier. The platform has three execution shards and one coordination shard and its parallel processing supports a higher number of transactions. Further, the EGLD token acts as the native token of the MultiversX, offering utility for staking, governance, smart contracts, and validator rewards, as well as transactions.
