We underestimated Dongfeng ICE brands’ volume contraction momentum, especially amid this year’s fierce pricing competition. We anticipate that Nissan volumes will likely further decline due to the pressure on electrification, thus, we cut our 2023-25e our volume estimates of the major JV brands – Honda, Nissan and PSA – by 14% on average. The stock is currently trading at a historical low of 12-month forward PB of 0.15x, largely pricing in the company’s challenging earnings prospects from struggling ICE JV brands and a sluggish EV product cycle. In light of this, we maintain our Hold rating on the stock. The EV product transition for Dongfeng’s major JV brands and local EV brands Voyah/Mengshi/Nami and volume ramp-up would be most critical for us to turn positive on the stock.
