Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered an optimistic address in a televised event to China’s population of 1.4 billion people on New Year’s Eve, celebrating the country’s AI and technology advancements and promising to reunify China and Taiwan.

“Many large AI models have been competing in a race to the top, and breakthroughs have been achieved in the research and development of our own chips,” Xi said. “All this has turned China into one of the economies with the fastest growing innovation capabilities.”
Xi Pledges Reunification with Taiwan after U.S. Arms Sale
Xi added that Chinese economic output is expected to reach 140 trillion Chinese yuan in 2025 and vowed to reunify China and Taiwan.
“We Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait share a bond of blood and kinship. The reunification of our motherland, a trend of the times, is unstoppable!” Xi said.
Earlier this week, China conducted live-fire military exercises around Taiwan and launched long-range projectiles into the Taiwan Strait for the first time since 2022. The move comes after the U.S. announced $11.1 billion of arms sales to the island.
