Believe it or not, someone just paid $9 million to have a private lunch with legendary investor Warren Buffett.

The lunch is part of a charity event and will also be attended by NBA basketball star Stephen Curry. An auction was held on eBay (EBAY) and Buffett has agreed to match the winning bid, which means a total of $18 million has been raised for the GLIDE Foundation homeless charity.
This year revives the charity event that Buffett had hosted for more than two decades, during which it raised $53 million for the GLIDE Foundation. The deep-pocketed anonymous winner will have lunch with Buffett and Curry in the 95-year-old investor’s hometown of Omaha, Nebraska this June.
The Event’s Past Success
The Buffett auction began in 2000 and continued every year until the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted it. Starting in 2008, every winning bid for lunch with Buffett surpassed $1 million. And, believe it or not, $9 million is no the most ever paid for lunch with Buffett. Someone paid $19 million for the lunch in 2022.
Buffett stepped down as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) in January of this year after leading the holding company for six decades. He remains chairman of the board of directors. Berkshire Hathaway’s more affordable Class B stock has declined about 5% over the past year.
