Why Are Stock Market Futures Up Today, 5/1/26?

U.S. stock futures edged higher ahead of Friday’s session supported by strong corporate earnings, easing oil prices, and growing hopes of a de-escalation in Middle East tensions. Futures on the Nasdaq 100 (NDX), the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), and the S&P 500 Index (SPX) were up 0.11%, 0.15%, and 0.21%, respectively, at 1:45 a.m. EDT on May 1.

At the time of writing, Brent crude (CM:BZ) rose 0.71% to $111.18 per barrel, while WTI crude (CM:CL) gained 0.18% to $105.26.

In after-hours trading, Apple (AAPL) shares rose more than 2%. The company beat expectations for earnings and revenue in its fiscal second quarter, but iPhone sales missed estimates for the second time in the past three quarters.

In the regular trading session, major indices jumped on the final trading day of April, with the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq hitting record highs as investors digested a wave of earnings and economic data. Overall, the Dow Jones, the S&P 500, and the Nasdaq rose 1.6%, 1.0%, and 0.9%, respectively.

Looking ahead, earnings reports are due from Exxon (XOM), Chevron (CVX), Moderna (MRNA), Colgate-Palmolive (CL), and Dominion Energy (D) tomorrow.

On the economic front, the S&P final U.S. manufacturing PMI and ISM manufacturing PMI reports will be released on Friday.
