Intel shares climbed 17.21% over the past week as investors cheered a series of AI-focused developments and a fresh wave of bullish analyst commentary. A key catalyst was U.S. antitrust approval for Intel’s planned investment in AI specialist SambaNova, clearing the way for the chipmaker to deepen its $35 million stake with an additional $15 million. SambaNova’s expertise in AI inference systems – crucial for enterprise and emerging agentic AI applications – is seen as reinforcing Intel’s strategy to move beyond traditional chips and capture more of the fast-growing AI workload market.
Sentiment also improved around Intel’s technology roadmap, particularly the 18A-P process node. New disclosures highlighted that, beyond an already known performance uplift, 18A-P brings about a 50% boost in thermal conductivity, enabling higher power density, lower power consumption, and greater stability at high temperatures. Those features are especially important for data-center chips that must handle intense AI and cloud workloads, underpinning the view that Intel can reassert itself as a leading advanced-node foundry in Western markets.
On Wall Street, the stock’s strong run has left many analysts cautious, with an overall Hold rating and an average 12‑month price target that sits below the current share price. Yet high-profile bulls are helping fuel the latest leg of the rally. Tigress Financial’s Ivan Feinseth reiterated a Buy rating and lifted his target to $118 after what he called a clear inflection point in Intel’s Q1 2026 results, powered by surging AI demand in data centers and PCs. He argues that Intel’s AI “flywheel” – spanning Xeon CPUs, 18A technology, and an AI-driven PC upgrade cycle – can support a multi‑year acceleration in growth, a narrative that has clearly resonated with investors over the past week.
