The skit aired on the ABC television network’s late night show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Disney owns the ABC network and produces Jimmy Kimmel’s late night program. While the mock White House Correspondents’ Dinner was meant in jest, Trump is nevertheless calling for Kimmel to be fired.
In a post on social media, Trump criticized Kimmel’s comedy routine, which aired days before a gunman attempted to enter the official White House Correspondents’ Dinner and disrupted the event. Trump described Kimmel’s jokes as “a despicable call to violence.”
Jimmy Kimmel’s Schtick
During the mock dinner segment, Kimmel showed a fake video of First Lady Melania Trump and the president’s son, Barron, appearing to sit in his studio, watching his comedy routine. The comedian joked that the First Lady had “a glow like an expectant widow.”
President Trump stated that Kimmel “should be immediately fired by Disney,” adding that the comedian’s remarks went “far beyond the pale.” This is the second time in less than a year that Trump has called for Kimmel to be fired.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! was suspended by Disney in September 2025 following controversial comments the comedian made about the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The suspension lasted for nearly a week before a consumer backlash prompted Disney to reinstate the show. Many people said they would cancel their Disney+ streaming subscriptions and boycott Disney products over Kimmel’s suspension.
