U.S. Stock Futures Flat ahead of Key Fed Decision

U.S. stock futures were flat ahead of Wednesday’s session as traders looked ahead to a highly anticipated Federal Reserve meeting. The central bank’s monetary policy decision and its economic outlook are expected to be the key drivers for markets on Wednesday. Futures on the Nasdaq 100 (NDX), the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), and the S&P 500 Index (SPX) were down 0.03%, 0.06%, and 0.03%, respectively, at 12:28 a.m. EDT on September 17.

Most traders are betting on the Fed to lower interest rates by a quarter-point. This move aims to boost the U.S. economy as job growth slows, even as inflation stays above the Fed’s 2% goal.

On Tuesday, the major stock indices ended the day with little change. The S&P 500 briefly hit a new intraday record before pulling back. Overall, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite dipped about 0.1% each, while the Dow Jones fell 0.3%.
