U.S. Stock Futures Edge Lower Ahead of Last Day of 2025

U.S. stock futures slipped Tuesday night ahead of the last trading day of 2025. Futures on the Nasdaq 100 (NDX), the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), and the S&P 500 (SPX) Index were down 0.22%, 0.07%, and 0.15%, respectively, at 8:26 p.m. EDT on December 30.

This comes after stocks logged their third straight losing session. During Tuesday’s regular trading, the S&P 500 slipped 0.14%, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.24%. The Dow also moved lower, ending the day down 0.20%.

The recent pullback stands out because this period is usually strong for stocks. The final five trading days of the year, along with the first two days of the new year, are often linked to the so-called “Santa Claus” rally, a stretch that has historically helped lift markets into year-end.

However, the latest weakness may signal that investors are locking in gains after a strong year. It could also point to more uneven trading ahead as markets head into 2026.

It must be noted that the market will be closed Thursday for New Year’s Day.Stay ahead of macro events with our up-to-the-minute Economic Calendar — filter by impact, country, and
