On Monday, the U.S. government announced a new plan to hire 1,000 engineers with experience in the AI and tech sectors as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to boost domestic innovation. U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor said that projects the engineers will work on include “Trump Accounts,” which will provide children born between 2025 and 2028 with a $1,000 federal grant.

Kupor added that the government seeks to complete its first round of hires for two-year positions by March 31.
The hiring follows an earlier push by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to slash federal jobs across the board, which faced significant backlash. Former DOGE head and Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk said that the department was “a little bit successful,” although he would choose to focus on his own companies if presented with the opportunity to lead DOGE again.
