President Trump’s approval rating has fallen to a second-term low of 36%, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll that collected responses from 1,272 American adults between March 20 and 23. His lowest approval during his first term was 33%.

35% of Americans are in favor of U.S. strikes on Iran, down from 37% in the prior week but still higher than the 27% seen during the start of the war. Since then, gas prices have surged by $1, or 33%, to $3.98.

Trump’s Approval Rating Drops as Economic Concerns Deepen

Furthermore, 25% of respondents approved of Trump’s handling of the cost of living, while 29% approved of his economic stewardship, marking the lowest rating for either of his terms.

“This provides a huge opportunity for Democrats to make major strides in the midterms by focusing on issues that are traditionally more Republican issues, like national security, the economy, and immigration,” said Democratic strategist Doug Farrar.

Meanwhile, 26% believe the war will make the U.S. safer in the long run, while 38% say that it won’t have a material effect on safety. In recent days, Trump has hinted at the war winding down, although the arrival of U.S. troops in the Middle East risks escalation between the two sides.
