“You definitely deserve the first FIFA peace prize for your action, for what you have obtained – in your way – but you obtained it in an incredible way,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the 2026 World Cup Draw in Washington, D.C., on Friday.
Trump Points to Peace Wins Ahead of FIFA Award
FIFA announced the introduction of the award in November, a few weeks after Trump lost out on the acclaimed Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. On Wednesday, Trump noted at a peace signing ceremony between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda that his administration has helped end eight wars in less than a year.
“This has become the eighth war that we’ve ended in less than one year,” Trump said. “Such an exciting thing to do.”
Trump was widely expected to win the FIFA Peace Prize, with prediction platform Kalshi assigning 91% odds of the outcome.
