“I may put on a tariff on countries if they don’t go along with Greenland because we need Greenland for national security,” Trump said at a healthcare roundtable event on Friday. He didn’t immediately specify a timetable or what the rate would be.
Will the U.S. Acquire Greenland?
Trump has spoken considerably about annexing Greenland since the U.S. captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro earlier this month. Delaware Senator Chris Coons noted that the meeting resulted in a “constructive and hopeful dialogue” and emphasized that it is up to the people of Greenland to decide on their future.
