U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to announce a trade deal with the UK on Thursday, according to media reports. This would make the UK the first country to secure an agreement following the White House’s recent tariffs. The news follows a social media post by Trump, in which he teased the announcement of a “major trade deal” with a “big and highly respected country.”

Earlier, a UK official confirmed on Tuesday that both countries have made substantial progress toward a trade deal, which is expected to include reduced tariff quotas on steel and automobiles. Notably, UK car and steel exports to the U.S. are currently subject to a 25% tariff.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration had previously confirmed that it is actively negotiating trade deals with India, the UK, South Korea, and Japan.
