Trump ‘Still Interested’ in Diplomatic Solution with Iran

Over the weekend, the U.S. struck three nuclear sites in Iran as it thrust itself into the Israel-Iran conflict. “Obliteration is an accurate term!,” said President Trump on Truth Social in regard to the damage. The attack was surprising for many, as Trump said last week that he would give Iran two weeks to negotiate terms to end the war and its nuclear program before the U.S. would potentially get involved.

At the same time, Trump is “still interested” in reaching a diplomatic solution with Iran, said the White House on Monday morning.

U.S.-Iran Meeting Remains Unscheduled

The U.S. and Iran were set to meet earlier this month to discuss nuclear program limits, although Iran canceled the meeting following Israel’s attack. As of now, the two sides have not planned a meeting.

Despite the risk of Iran retaliating against the U.S., the S&P 500 (SPX) is set to open in the green. The benchmark index has remained resilient in the face of the war, implying that investors believe the situation could be short-lived while having a nonmaterial long-term impact on corporate earnings and growth.

The benchmark index has inched higher by 1.69% year-to-date.
