Ahead of the President Trump’s visit to Beijing later this month, Trump lauded his relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping and said China has been respectful of the actions the U.S. has taken against Iran.

“We haven’t been challenged by China. They don’t challenge us. And he wouldn’t do that. I don’t think he’d do that because of me,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday.

Trump Signals Stable U.S.-China Relations

Trump added that he has a “very good relationship” with Xi and that the U.S. and China engage in a high volume of business.

China is the largest buyer of Iranian oil and purchased roughly 91% of the country’s exports in 2024, according to Statista. Brent crude oil (BZ) has surged 50% since the beginning of the war on February 28 due to Iran threatening to attack vessels traveling through the Strait of Hormuz.
