Trump Says U.S.-China Relations are ‘Extremely Strong’

President Trump spoke over the phone with Chinese President Xi Jinping this morning, marking the first communication between the two leaders since they met in South Korea and agreed to a trade deal. During the call, the pair discussed several topics, such as trade, the Ukraine-Russia war, farm products, and the flow of fentanyl.

“Our relationship with China is extremely strong!” Trump said in a Truth Social post. “This call was a follow up to our highly successful meeting in South Korea, three weeks ago.” The meeting resulted in the U.S. agreeing to cut China’s tariff rate to 47% from 57%, while China agreed to ramp up U.S. soybean purchases, actively work to halt the flow of fentanyl, and limit restrictions on rare earth exports.

Trump Accepts Xi’s Invitation to Visit China

Furthermore, Trump said that he had accepted an invitation from Xi to visit Beijing in April 2026, while Xi accepted an invitation to visit the U.S. later in the year. “We agreed that it is important that we communicate often, which I look forward to doing,” added Trump.

Trump last visited China during his first presidential term in 2017, while Xi traveled to the U.S. in 2023 for the 30th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in San Francisco, California.
