Earlier today, Iran announced that it would reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial vessels for the duration of the 10-day Israel-Lebanon ceasefire. Trump took the announcement a step further, saying that Iran had agreed to never close the waterway again.

U.S. and Iran Negotiate Peace Terms

The two countries are currently negotiating a three-page peace proposal. One of the terms includes the U.S. releasing $20 billion of frozen Iranian assets in exchange for Iran ceding its stockpile of enriched uranium, according to sources familiar with the matter. Earlier today, Trump said that Iran has agreed to end its nuclear program, although Tehran hasn’t confirmed the statement.

Meanwhile, the U.S. continues to blockade ships entering and exiting Iranian ports, with Iran warning it would close Hormuz again if the measure persists, contradicting Trump’s claim.
