“I could reduce Unemployment to 2% overnight by just hiring people into the Federal Government, even though those Jobs are not necessary,” Trump said in a Truth Social post on Friday.

Government Jobs Expected to Fall by 317,000 in 2025

The U.S. economy shed 162,000 government jobs in October and another 6,000 jobs in November, according to nonfarm payrolls data. The government workforce has shrunk by 271,000 jobs since peaking in January.

The Office of Personnel Management expects a loss of 317,000 government jobs by the end of the year, with many workers accepting a buyout offer from the Trump administration.
