The Trump administration is preparing to expand its travel ban to around 30 countries, with a Department of Homeland Security official telling CBS News on Tuesday that a list would be publicized soon. The action comes after two National Guard members were shot in Washington, D.C., last week by an Afghan national.

“I am recommending a full travel ban on every damn country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies,” said Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in an X post. Noem met with Trump on Monday to recommend increasing the number of countries on the travel ban list.
Trump Targets Third World Countries in Immigration Policy Overhaul
In June, the White House published a list of 19 countries that would face full or partial immigration restrictions. Countries facing full restrictions include Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, and Haiti, while countries facing partial restrictions include Venezuela, Burundi, Cuba, and Laos.
Last week, Trump said that he would “permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries” without specifying the exact countries. Reducing immigration into the U.S. has long been a priority for Trump, who earlier this year raised the H-1B visa application fee to $100,000, adding a barrier for highly-skilled workers to enter the country.
