Earlier this month, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer met with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and Vice Minister of Commerce Li Chenggang in Paris, with Bessent describing the discussions as “very good.”
The upcoming summit will likely cover several key topics, including tariffs, Iran, Taiwan, and rare earths. Rare earths are crucial in the development of AI chips, smartphones, electric vehicles, and other technology, with China accounting for roughly 65% of global production.
