Trump Pressures Putin with Looming Triple-Digit Tariff Deadline

President Trump announced that he will shorten the 50-day tariff deadline he initially gave Russia to end its war on Ukraine, replacing it with a new deadline that will expire in 10 to 12 days. The initial 50-day deadline was set to expire on September 1.

Trump has threatened Russian President Vladimir Putin with 100% secondary tariffs. These tariffs would affect trading partners of Russia, hitting buyers of its oil and gas. These include major buyers like China and India.

Trump Shortens Window for Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire

“And then President Putin goes out and starts launching rockets into some city… bodies lying all over the street,” said Trump in Scotland on Monday morning, reiterating his frustration with the ongoing war.

Trump’s comments come as officials from the U.S. and China meet in Stockholm for trade negotiations, potentially creating a rift between the two countries.
